In this recorded session, you will consider why estimation is pivotal for building mathematical understanding.
Uncover great problems that use estimation and explore how these can act as a springboard into other areas of mathematical thinking.
Using hands-on mathematical explorations, you will examine how estimation allows us to benchmark ideas, refine our intuition and hone our focus.
The power of estimation lies at the heart of what is to follow.

Margarita is a numeracy consultant for schools across Australia. She has been a primary teacher, secondary mathematics teacher and a lecturer in teacher education at RMIT University.
Margarita's doctoral research focused on multiplicative thinking and meeting the needs of at-risk Middle Years students in numeracy. This research was part of the Scaffolding Numeracy in the Middle Years Research Project, an ARC Linkage project with the Victorian and the Tasmanian Departments of Education.
Margarita will inspire you to think deeply and to form new connections.
Andrew helps people enjoy maths, from the most reluctant learner to those who require a meaningful challenge. For the last 8 years, Andrew has been inventing unique games, hands-on activities and rich tasks to engage any mathematician (teachers included).
